    Under Income Tax Act, 1961, Section 44AB, a Tax audit is mandatory for the following persons who carry on business or profession-

    • For Business- If the Revenue/ Total Sales is INR 1 crore rupees and more than 1 crore rupees in any previous year and

    • For Profession- If gross receipts are more than INR 50 Lakh rupees in any previous year.

    For an above certain person, it is mandatory to get their books of accounts audited by a Chartered Accountant of ICAI.

    According to section 139(1) of the Companies Act, 2013 read with rule 3 of Companies (Audit and Auditors) Rules, 2014 every company shall appoint an individual or a firm as an auditor.
